Goals Are Funny Things

I started 2021 with a goal of 60 books which was less than the number of books that I had read in 2020, which was 72. I like to achieve goals so I thought that would make it easier to achieve this goal. Before the end of May, I was over my goal so I kept increasing it for the rest of the year. From 60 to 70, then to 100, then to 110, and finally to 120.
About halfway through December or so I hit and then exceeded my goal. I read 121 books in 2021.
Then I decided not to finish any more books in 2021 but to keep listening / reading and wait to complete them in 2022 for my new goal.
I know that's strange but that's what I did. Today is the first of January and it's time to start my new goal and finish a book or two up very soon.
Goals are funny things. I don't always hit my goals but they help me reach more than I would have without them.
My reading list has a variety of authors and ranges from fiction to non-fiction. I like Charles Dickens' books so I have been reading one of those a year lately plus listening to a new narrator yearly of his A Christmas Carol. Sometimes I read a children's book and more often books that will help me to understand others and myself better.
What I find is that you never know what book will change you, impact you, wake you up.
I read the Bible a lot and in particular the Gospels and the rest of the New Testament.
I just can't get enough of Jesus into me. I desire to get more and more Jesus so I need to get him into my head, into my life, every day.
Books are not an escape. They show us the reality that we wouldn't encounter if all we had were our own experiences.
Just wanted to share this with you. This is not a contest. Some of you do other things to grow your minds and hearts. That's good. I do other things too. Like, write...which I just did here for much too long.
